Homemade Gyro Meat
This recipe has been a hero in our home - for a few reasons. First, it's the perfect homemade to-go snack that actually includes meat, other than jerky or cracklings. Second, it's so tasty AND contains lamb.
I personally use a mix of lamb and beef, but you definitely can use more lamb, more beef, or even one or the other. I love to pair this with homemade pitas when I have the time, but tortillas or on top of rice works as well. It's great on a sandwich as leftovers, too. Fresh cucumber, onion, and tomato slices make this dish, as well as some tzatziki sauce, of course!
Homemade Gyro Meat
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb ground lamb
- 1 tsp garlic powder or fresh, minced garlic
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/4 tsp dried dill, or more fresh dill
- 1/2 tsp each salt and pepper
- 1 tsp olive oil
Instructions
Stick alllll the above into a food processor, and process until fully incorporated. Spread meat thinly on a baking sheet, cast iron, or casserole dish. You can spread it as one piece and cut with a pizza cutter after cooked, or into little "skewer" pieces. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes, or until fully cooked (slightly brown on top and bottom). Remove and let cool slightly before serving.
